I just had my battery changed at a non-Audi dealer. Also, the procedure worked even when *none* of my fobs were workable, even after trying the page 61 procedure spelled out above. So, i have now bought brand new key fob from Audi. You have to put the key in the ignition, turn the key to the "accessory position" , and hold the unlock button for at least 5 seconds.

This should do the trick.
