Cut 4mm wire F5 (White/Yellow) around 1.5 inches back from "F" connector. After calling an Audi Parts guy to figure out which relay controls the rear defroster, I was told that it is Relay #7 under driver's side dash panel. Coding 00?xx: Chassis 0 = Sedan/Avant 1 = Cabrio 00x?x: Heated Windshield 0 = Heated Windshield not installed 1 = Heated Windshield installed 00xx?: Sunroof 0 = No Sunroof OR Normal Is there any need to do any coding now? my review here
I'm glad you were able to fix it and take some pics of the repair. I have also checked the voltage on the defroster lines with a multimeter but there was 0 volts. Mine was on the right hand side - the brown return wire. Any reputable automotive shop should stock them - go to the shop and say, "Do you have a 12v 30A Automotive Relay Mr Shopkeeper!" Can you remember which module controls the heated elements in the Vag com? It was 40 amp relay as suggested by the Audi Parts guy, although I have not found any other electrical problems in the car. bugger edit*** I just had to add a pin in the block for +UB and run a wire to a power feed from SENS. The "thick" wires will get warm owing to the amount of current the rear window element draws - the fuse is 30A.
Further investigations are required to look into the coding of these two units. Does your new unit have the switches for heated seats, and you don't have heated seats fitted? Iím sorry for the delay in posting this update but I was swamped with work and traveling. The new unit worked okay apart from the rear demister switch/led acting exactly like your getting.

Tried it again with the same result. Not that I use the climate much, sunshine means roof down woohoo 2003 A4 Cab 2.4 V6 Manual / 54k miles genuine woohoo (on a 11 year old car lol) This one should be labeled 213. I took the glove box off and the green servo and gave it all a wiggle and its all working now????
Which 2 pins are you referring to? This is exactly what I did with mine. I have a lead but have very little experience with using it. I also used this how-to for photos of whats under the D-pillar.
The way it is wired in the photo prevents the rear demister from ever receiving positive power.
