If you set slidingExpiration to true and have your 30 min timeout, does that work? You say "The user can login if the website is added to the Trusted Sites security zone." This implies that mysite.com may be blocked in one of the other zones that I had the same results using real IE 8 through 11, I did not have an IE 7 install handy.
